Default Sitewide links vs homepage or other single page links

Is a sitewide link clearly the better thing than a single page link, and if so how much better. For instance I can pick pages on a site to advertise for xx or I can advertise sitewide (100,000 pages) for middle xxx

After the latest G crackdown, my plan for the forseeable future is...

sitewide traffic links w/rel=nofollow
or
single page/article seo links

Looks like G is finally serious about cracking down.
Upside? Links just got a whole lot cheaper. Shop around.

I thought Google were cracking down on sites selling the links and not those buying? Shouldn't that mean links will be more expensive?

G is really serious about this, they want people in their ad programs.
IMO, thinking your a innocent party as a buyer is real dangerous.
They even have a narc your neighbor hotline to turn in link sales.
Are they going to go thru the trouble of identifying offenders, then let half the parties off scott free?

I picked up from a few places, that with the PR penalties that were also dealt out, there should be a decline in link prices, since so much of the market is driven by PR.

Real curious to see how it plays out?
I do very little link buying & no trades, so hoping to improve my insight of the whole link game?
Sellers are going to want to hold firm, buyers are (or should) want discounts for lower PR etc.

Anyone notice anything moving either way yet?

The PR on one of my websites went up in the last update after going down in the update before that. In the time in between, I introduced more paid links to the site. Perhaps the PR shift happened because the ads were long-term deals and G discounted them as being paid links over time.

I think you may be right about cheaper links. The uncertainty with G has caused advertisers to be more cautious, and even though supply has dropped, demand has probably dropped even more.
