Hey everybody, I'm looking at buying a .net name because the .com has been taken but the domain name is really good. Do search engines look at .net differently than they do .com? I hope to build a new site on this sometime and get it towards the top but if .com takes precidence over .net then screw it.

Doesn't matter if you choose .net or .com I have websites that rank high with .info

However.... it's easier for visitors to remember your web address if you use a .Com

If you're looking for type-in return traffic, most people will mistakenly type in the .com instead of the .net. The search engines don't care what your TLD is.

Ya, I understand this, but the .com has been taken so maybe somebody will be lucky and get a few type in from me, but I'm mostly looking to do SE marketing.

Personally I prefer .com simply because I do a lot of offline marketing and people just remember .com. However, .net is just as good searchwise as .com. I just prefer.com (as does everyone else), but realistically it doesn't actually matter THAT much. Its whats on your site that matters, not if it is .net or .com.
