google penalizing my sites

htaccess file should include:

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

Please REPLACE domain.com and www.domain.com with your actual domain name.

It is likely that your htaccess file already has this code in:
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on

If so, there is no need to put it in a second time. Instead, just stick the rest of the code somewhere below it.

EDIT: The method mentioned above only works if you have Apache (Linux sever) and mod_rewrite is enabled. There are ways to set this up on Windows servers as well. Check out this article that covers various methods.

I do think ya need help, but I honestly, think you need more help than a quickie site review in the forum is going to give you.

If you're a do-it yourselfer, read up on SEO, join some SEO forums, this is a helpful forum, but people can't keep expecting to just show up one day and say 'teach me everything' I'm ready to SEO...

You really do have to put in the effort if you want the rewards, spend hours reading SEO forums, deciding who's guessing, who's bs'ing just because they want to sound smart, and who's onto something..

Then you have to start implementing, which can be the hard part.. I looked at dominantonlinepoker.. it's really kind of disorganized.. or maybe it just seems that way because I'm looking at a bunch of posts on the one page, and it seems to pull the topic in a lot of directions?

I'm not saying you don't have some great stuff there, just that your home page is off in soooo many directions...

As has been drilled home in this thread (I hope) Your 301 isn't working (even after reading the words of so many people i'd buy stock in, I did check, it isn't working... if you really have the code in there.. and it's all as it should be, it might be to do with your server.. is it an apache that does not allow 301's.. or the opposite of that? I don't remember.. but anyway, look that up if all else fails


Either way.. if it's set up, it needs to be fixed. As was said above, I wouldn't link the two sites together so much. ... Those two fixes aren't the only things I'd suggest.

Kaus mentioned your site was a WP blog, maybe limit the # of posts showing up the first page? That should help condense the keywords some..

thx for all those tips , i ve completed a big update on my homepage with far less links / interlinks

i wont make a sitemap though as I dont think it contributes much for seo or for visitor navigation

i will now begin to work on the structure of the site and the overview , then i ll do the redirect one although my seo expert keeps telling its ok and its not the reason i got the penalty

all my sidepages are going up again, its just my homepage which needs to be picked up again

i have also changed the website title

for the love of all things holy, please stop referring to your friend as an "seo expert". and if you're not going to listen to any of the advice you've been given in this thread, why start one in the first place?

the interlinking on your site is an utter joke.

stop what you're doing and please answer this question. what do you want your root URL to be?

now that you've made that seemingly difficult decision, go thru and UPDATE EVERY SINGLE LINK ON YOUR WEBSITE and USE THAT #%@!ing URL.

next, stop letting your "seo expert" friend give you advice about what is or is not causing the penalty you're currently seeing in google, and either hire someone competent or force him to do what practically every responder in this thread has advised you to do. Implement a 301 redirect for your root URL.

Im actually getting better rankings again.
But again, although this redirect thing is a problem, was it really the answer to the question why i got penalized?
I find this very hard to believe as this redirecting thing has been the same for over 1 year, and only the last few weeks i received the penalty

anyway, im going to change it.

JOris I am editing this because I now feel bad. You have people here who are at the top of the food chain when it comes to this stuff like PPP, Randy and Kyle who were trying to help you.

Here's something to think about ...what harm would it have caused your site to try and be a little open minded and use the advice.

Damn poor Joris has taken a battering in this thread!

The 301 re-direct will take you literally a few minutes if you haven't already done it mate, its literally copy and paste but theres no need to go over that as i think everyone else already has

Lady H has given you some great tips there, i hope you take those on board read them through a few times if you have to.
