Sitemap Help
I'm using this wordpress plug in for sitemaps in my blog:
http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects...aps-generator/
The plugin creates two sitemaps one that looks normal to us human readers and another thats looks unintelligible. In the below example, the first one is the normal one.
http://www.copyblogger.com/sitemap.xml
http://copyblogger.com/sitemap.xml
When i logged in to google webmaster tools, it says that it has not detected my sitemap. So now i want to manually submit the sitemap. However i can only add the unintelligible second version. Its that ok? Or do i have to add the sitemap that looks normal to us humans or are both fine?
Thanks in advance.

when setting up your site in webmaster tools, use the version that works for you. If it's not letting you use the www version, it's because when you added your site to g's webmaster tools, you added it as a non-www website.

my website is set-up as a .www website but the plugin set it up so that the www. sitemap is the strange one (eg http://copyblogger.com/sitemap.xml ) and non-www is the normal sitemap is the normal one.
so when i go to submit the sitemap it asks me for www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml but for me the address of the normal one is http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml
so the problem is with the plugin i guess.

Quick question for you SEO / XML gurus.
Do the url's in the sitemap have to be hyperlinked? The sitemap on my blog for example does not hyperlink, yet in google webmaster tools it says OK.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah that sitemap is fine. If google had a problem with it it'd say invalid sitemap.

I've found that my new pages on my WP sites get indexed much faster by using a standard xml sitemap instead of the WP sitemap.. I use the paid version of this: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
I of course use this and upload that to my webmaster tools section

Have you tried using a custom location and forcing it to the one that g wants? The custom location option is within the configuration page of the sitemap plugin.

- Login to the backend wordpress
- Settings > XML-Sitemap
- Scroll down the page until you see "Location of your sitemap file"
- Select the radio button "Custom Location"
- Where it says: "Complete URL to the sitemap file, including name. Example: http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml"
- Change the url to whichever one you want to use.
Then set up your google sitemap accordingly. This may mean that you have to add a new website without the www.
The other choice, change your configuration of your wordpress website for the www version (but that will add www to all of the urls)
This is, of course, blind troubleshooting. If you are shy and want to pm me the url, I'll check it out for you.

my website does have www. in front, and the plugin gives right address, but when i visit the sitemap its the wrong one. Its backwards. so there is no point manually changing to www. it is on www. already.
