.com vs. .co.uk

Anyone notice a difference in using these domains?

I have a new site that i bought that is .co.uk and have found that I can get some more domains that are long gone as .com's with the .co.uk domain code.

Can .co.uk domains rank just as easily in Google as .com's?

Naturally they'll rank ten times better in google.co.uk. I've never tried changing the geo status in google webmaster tools of a .co.uk domain to target a different region, like if you're going to target the US instead of the UK.

I doubt a US Google user is going to click on a .co.uk domain in preference to a .com, regardless of where they are in the SERPs. I can't remember ever seeing a .co.uk ranking higher than a .com on Google.com, but that's not to say it isn't impossible. For Google UK however, .co.uk is most certainly the way to go, and apparently it can help if the site is also physically hosted in the UK - I haven't verified this personally.
