Default Rant: NoFollow Stinks!

I find myself trying not to link out to much, not to new sites, not to mediumly ranked sites, not to sites with low pr.

I used to love to link, just because I knew it made ppl smile when you linked to something they did well.

Instead of trying to come up with a blackjack strategy guide, i'd link to one..

I absolutely love poker kings style of writing, so I used to link to lotsa articles that were written in that style for example.. I was once accused of having link dioreah, and sadly, it's probly true. A linking opportunity wasted is just sad beeznez to me .

But here I am at PR0, having linked out to much, and sold links, and trying to fix it.. I have more than 4000 pages, and the PR just says FAILURE to me.

I'm getting scraped like a sob, sooo I'm afraid i'll lose niche rankings, I see some scraped junk getting indexed before me, and I'm becoming a linkophobic, which is the opposite of what the internet was intended for in the first place.

So one solution I've found when I really want to link to something, is if it's a newer site, or has no pr, or low pr, etc, I nofollow the link.

So, mjmmurphy mentions this backlink checking tool to me, I've seen lotsa these, but I love backlinks, they say .. hey good job! imo. So I'm having this horrid day, and wasting time anyway, so I go about looking thru the backlinks.

So many blasts from the past in there It's neato stuff Google took away a lot of my backlinks when I obv got popped for link selling recently.

A lot of these I'd forgotten about..

Anyway I'm looking thru these sites, the ones that link to me, talk about my articles, in some cases 'copy them for the purpose of discussion' and there's very few nofollow's really, in the whole realm of things, which is what makes this a rant, and a rather whiney one.

But everyone of those nofollows is a little offensive if ya know what I mean . And here that's what I'M DOING especially if i link to a forum post, or new blog post on a pr1/2 site. etc.

/end whiney rant.

ps, the entire nofollow attribute stinks, imagine folks that don't even know about the link selling penalty's and are small time sites tha tsell ad space, it stinks , I usually love google, but they tried to make their algo problem public, and it stinks.

Ok, really /end

I wouldn't assume that having lots of outbound links is what caused your site to show a PR of 0. And I don't think nofollowing a bunch of links on your site is going to make your site suddenly have a PR greater than 0. And if you think the nofollow attribute stinks, don't use it. Link to who you want for whatever reasons that you want.

I don't think it's the outbound links, i'm pretty certain it was the selling of said outbound links. Small chance it was a redirect issue, or the combination of both.

Funny thing, I was pr4 with dupe seo tags, and a funky broken all in one seo plugin.. darn google!

Lots and lots and lots of reading on the subj on blogs such as Matt Cutts suggest nofollowing sold links, affiliate links, bad neighborhoods, etc.

I do this sorta thing on clients sites often, always with great results, so far, not so good with 4flush .

I don't think I can afford to just ignore the exsistance of the nofollow tag ..

No follow still stinks :P

I dont think thats really true. Sure everyone starts out not knowing things but I think eventually you get stuck on something and you find a forum somewhere. Almost every forum if not all of them makes mention of PR especially come around updates..its there...eventually people learn, they read about others and they learn.

I dont use no follow at all for linking to people. I link out to sites reciprocal and one way. I personally dont think about what PR they have just what I am linking to..the only time I ever had hesitation on linking to someone was a site which was penalized but is a great site. I already had the link in place and wasnt sure if I should still be linking to it ...just not sure on that because I hadnt linked out to a penalized site. Anyway thanks to some great advice his link remains because hes got a quality site and its not his fault...itll bounce back in time

Are you still ranking for your terms or has that dropped to?

I build lots of little websites for small businesses, and i often teach ppl how to sell their add space to local companies, or get them started or whatever. I recently just built a dance studio webpage for my daughters dance teacher, didn't charge her, she's awesome.

So in a perfect world, since she requires 4 costumes a year, a black leotard, and pink tights.. she'd sell her add space to someone that sells black leotards, ballet shoes, tap shoes, pink tights, and perhaps voice lessons, a local photographer, and for some extra cash, a local children's modeling agency.

Not so much affiliate sites, whereas we make our way to forums, but just ur everyday small business sites earning extra income from webspace .

I do rank but so many sites leach off my stories that I do worry, especially when I see a scraper (not just a copycat, but a plain spam scraper site) outrank me for a new news story.

EDIT:

I noticed there's a few ppl reading this, so since i mentioned leaching scraper sites here, I don't remember the name offhand, but there is a WP plugin that spams scraper sites. So basically they scrap your content, your url shows up all over there page, as does the plugin creators.

Doesn't seem to work on a lot of sites, but it works on some.
