Default Question regarding duplicate content and penalty from Google

Hi all
Iam a real donk at SEO...this is probably a stupid question, but just need to get things clearified...

Lets say I use dublicate content at two or more of more sites..will my site(s) then get "penalised" from google and other search-engines?

For exsample if I use the same poker-review like this one : http://www.facebookfreerolls.com/centrebetpoker.htm and i copy/paste it to one of my other sites will that penalise my site???

Or can I just change some words and senteces here and there and not get penalised for the search engines??

Thanks in advance

Well you could change it and then use copyscape.com to see if its green.
If its duplicate it will or can penalize the page, not the hole site.

I would suggest reading Google's guidelines and what they have to say about duplicate content: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...t-penalty.html

Quote:
Let's put this to bed once and for all, folks: There's no such thing as a "duplicate content penalty." At least, not in the way most people mean when they say that.

There are some penalties that are related to the idea of having the same content as another site—for example, if you're scraping content from other sites and republishing it, or if you republish content without adding any additional value. These tactics are clearly outlined (and discouraged) in our Webmaster Guidelines:
  • Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
  • Avoid... "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
  • If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

There is no reason to create duplicate content, and plenty of reasons not to.

You need to decide what your goal with your website is. This goes far beyond one or two articles. Your website needs to become some sort of resource in the niche you are targeting.

Your content is what drives traffic and you need to decide if you want a site thrown together, or if you are willing to do the work needed to make money, drive traffic, and reach your goals.

So, to answer your question you could probably get by with changing a few parts of the article here and there and get by. But in the long run, is that how you are going to run your business? Do you think that's a viable marketing strategy??

There is obviously no SEO benefit to dup. content. Having outgoing links that are relevant, with high clickthrough rates, and lots of time spent on pages (the off-site pages you are linking too) seems to have some SEO value (I don't think it is much, but it's better than having your stuff flagged as duplicate content). You would be better off just linking to the original stuff if you think it's important for your site's visitors.

To make it simple for you - Google normally will rank only one copy of that content. Best way around it is to rewrite it manually. Use dupecop.com to compare your original content vs rewritten one. You should aim to have 50% difference or more.
