Pokermonger, I'm not sure if you understood me correctly - I have said that G doesn't value DMOZ more than other directories anymore. As far as I know, the guys at Google had an ambition few years ago to make DMOZ kind of their official directory - they wanted to have their own directory just as Yahoo had theirs. DMOZ was supposed to be independent and uncommercial and therefore a very reliable source of information for G's SE.
But the idea failed as the DMOZ editors (anonymous people from all over the word) started to use unclear acceptance criteria for different sites. The editors knew how important a DMOZ entry was and what power that gave them. In fact, there have been cases that people aplied for the DMOZ editor just to add their sites and their friends sites while at the same time to ban competitors sites(*). So DMOZ lost its reputation and Google adjusted their SE algo accordingly. The source of this information - well, as always - forums, forums, discussions, forums... In the SEO world you never know these things for sure, you may just listen to what majority is saying. In other words, I'm not 100% sure about it, I'm just 80% sure <_<
On the other hand I have said, that DMOZ entry gives your site a lot more inbound link power than any other directory. But the reason for that is not that DMOZ is so cool but the fact that there are so many clones of it. But G knows that and will try to prevent the sites from getting 'duplicate DMOZ power'.
* - my site was not accepted too. The editor told me I have too many affiliate links and not enough original content. Actually I think that I have the best content, at least in the polish market, while at the same time I saw sites in the DMOZ that contained of affiliates links only...
