Basic google question......

okay, my site has been up about 3 days. If you put in the exact name in google (lol) it will come up. But when it comes up, there is no description of the site under the link. Is there something special I have to do?

did you add meta tag descriptoin ? and keywords ? if u have already done that reupload your index page

ah, yes, I don't believe I have done that. I just got the site designed and haven't started any SEO work yet. I guess the first step is to add a meta tag and some keywords.

You need a Page Title but you are likely to have had your your URL "seen" but not crawled to yet. You should be indexed normally soon.

Adding meta tags and descriptions will not be the magic answer, as you will notice in google searches the information contained underneath your link is almost never meta tags and descriptions - give it some time and you will see some info below.

P.S. I am not suggesting that you do not need meta tags - your page content will show up underneath your title in google.

my host stats show several "bots" from Google (Googlebot) and some other Inktomi Slurp. Is that the crawler/indexer thing? lol at my terminology. I'm a CPA, not a webmaster.

Googlebot is the Google crawler. There is a difference between crawling and indexing but that isn't important here. Slurp is the Yahoo crawler.

It says the googlebot has been to my site 31 times in 3 days.

What does it do? Is it just search the site?

A quick and simple way is to reupload your index page this should get your index page updated withing a few days with the new metatags and descriptoin if that doesnt work that means you dont have enough incoming links pointing to your site and google bots are coming back enough to find the updated material.
