Just curious. How much are the services for most of the SEO companies out there?

Quite a lot, but the really good guys are worth every penny to those that can afford them - a cheap one would be low 5 figures per month.

"SEO companies" are usually very cheap, but you also get what you pay for. Most have no idea what they are doing. Of those that do, half are scamsters, like they will link to your site from their network. That isn't seo, it's temporary spam.

From what i read, most for hire SEOs make 30 to 60k. The bottom line is, why hire yourself out to do something instead of doing it for your own benefit. For hire SEO really only makes sense if a SEO company works for something like a Fortune 500 company, where the SEO could never replicate the business they are working for.

Go to some of the Forums and see SEOs talking about how they were able to charge "a lot" when they charged $100 an hour.

Listen to PPP, he knows exactly what he's talking about.

I'm still a total newb. But When I first started out several months ago I spent roughly 2 entire weeks just reading everything I could find seo. I started here and read every single page on the forum, then came back and read them again. Then I went to webmaster world and basically started on page 1. Then went to talkseo, and so on. I read so much on seo I was dreaming about anchor text and deep links at night.

As of the Jagger update one of my sites is out of the sandbox after only 4-5 months and ranking on the first page of google for a very competitive term

Also Randy has a blog somewhere that has good info and some good links on it. Forget the addy.

Do the seo yourself.
