I am wondering if I need to have a seperate set of meta tags for each page on my site?

Right now I just have one set of meta tags for my site.

I spoke with my webmaster and he is not sure if doing this helps or hurts in SEO. Anyone have any experience with this?

I don't want to change it and then have my site vanish from the SE's.

Also, I'm using WebCEO. Anyone else have any good/bad things to say about this software?

Thanks,
SmackDog

You don't need separate mata tags for every page however there is no problem if you have different ones. I do believe that meta tags are not important at all - SEs almost don't care about them (only tags do matter). You definitelly won't get hurt in SEs - no matter what you do with your metatags (unless you use 'nofollow' command :lol

I can see that a lot of you guys are worried about vanishing form SE, getting banned, black flagged etc. etc. Well, there is no need to panic. Getting SE ban is actually not that easy. Here are my guidelines for SE ban:

1. Put one million words 'poker' on your site with no other content.
2. Put one million words 'poker' in your meta keywords and description (it may not work because as I said SEs don't care too much about metas).
3. Start spamming and putting your links in as many blogs, forums as possible.
4. Do anything as stupid as mentioned above, nothing particular comes to my mind.
5. Exchange links with sites that you are sure are applying suggestions listed above.

And if you don't do any of these you will be ok After all, SEs are there to provide people with information, not to ban everyone who makes the slightest mistake.

No, that's not a problem at all. Firstly, on some forums the SEs will not see your sigs as they can not login. Secondly, you say you were signed at a lot of forums but what I meant was thousands - some people use bots to spam forums and blogs. Thirdly, as long as you are normal (ie. you haven't registered just to spam and post your link) member of a forum there is no reason for forum admins to report you here...

In general, SEs are clever enough to separate normal internet activity from spam, cloaking, deception and stupidity... in other words, stop worrying about these damn bans

You should never have the same meta tags on pages. It's like saying "all my pages are the same" or "I don't give a crap enough about my site to do it right."

Any technical type tags of course can be the same, like using the English content one, but descriptions and keywords should always be unique. It's not deadly to have them the same, but it is a definite bad thing as it is a sign of what it is: you don't care enough about that page to have tags appropriate to that page.

There has been a lot of information about meta tags, robot.txt files etc.
Do any of you use a Standard for TYPES of meta tags? Not sure if i am making sense, basically a template of the meta tags(name tiltle keywords...? obviously not the content of the tag, but the tag itself) that has all or the most useful meta tags?

The keywords tag is nowhere near as important nowadays as it used to be, but the description tag is still VERY important, plus what PPP said.

errrrr....actually nevermind, you might be my competition?
