No, the search engines are not capable of reading js. True, it will focus them on your text but your other pages will not get indexed.
At the very least, put a text link for your sitemap at the bottom of your page. Also, include links to other pages in your text. IMO, those are the links that get clicked more often anyway and the SEs are capable of reading those.
Also, create a google sitemap and submit it to them, that has helped me get more pages indexed.
