I had an SEO company call me today and I am not planning on hiring them but the guy basically told me that one of my sites was struggling in SEO because it was not WC3 compliant.

I am not familiar with this stuff. Does anyone have any input on the importance of WC3.........Keep in mind this same sales guy had never heard of DMOZ.  I had to laugh.

It's a good thing to have a compliant site, but not strictly speaking necessary. The fewer errors that come up when you validate the site, the better off you are.

ive tried and tried to be compliant with my sites, i think when you use certain java or html banners theres no way you can, and for the poker industry we rely on html banners from these other sites which is what i think causes the sites to be un compliant. i know full tilt used to give me problems with html errors and also stat counter, i dont have much experience with that sort of thing just giving a personal opinion, as far as the sales guys goes hes trying to get your business, i think it would be more helpful to have clean html code with minimal errors, i run sites through netmechanic and even the most well known sites have browser compatibilit problems as well as html errors! in jist i wouldnt worry about it, you seem to do fine with out some guy who claims he can produce for you!!!!

My new site(not the poker bus) validates 100%. It took a bunch of tweaking, but at least now I don't have to worry about browsers showing the site differently or possible SEO issues. I figured it could only help.

I checked over at WMW as you've sparked my interest in validation!

There doesn't seem to be any real SEO advantages to validation however it does guarantee that your webpage will be viewed consistently by all popular browsers.

Possibly meaning higher conversion rates knowing that nobody is receiving a garbled mess..?

My two cents!

I use statcounter, but i host all my own images and banners instead of using the site hosted html banners and such (like fulltilt) and have zero problems validating 4.01 transitional.

Bottom line, it cant hurt to be 100% valid, but its pretty easy to do yourself (if i can do it, i promise you guys can do it) using the official W3C (world wide web consortium)validator...
