I have a duplicate content penalty on my site, not sure how long I have been penalised for this for, but I just noticed recently when investagating why I have had like 3/4 of my pages dropped from google.
The problem is definately the fault of my web host. I have like all these pages indexed in google and visible as pages, for example: WWW. pokerbonusdirect . com / index / news
AND WWW. pokerbonusdirect . com / index / bonus
basically its like a mirror of my home page with all of the links pointing from that page to my homepage...
No images are there basically because I dont have any images in the folder "index" In fact I dont even have a folder named index.... Thats the wierd thing.
My hosting support says that unless I have a folder named "index" these urls would not be visible. doh. well finally they looked in to it last week and I indeed dont have a folder by that name, so they are as baffled as me.
Unfortunately with this going on I have like more than 100 duplicate home pages...
I have just now added /index/ to my dissallow list in my robots.txt, and have been told by my hosting company that my problem is in that my homepage is not named "index.htm" or "index.html" and thats why this problem has occurred..... They support PHP and my homepage is .php so I dont see what the problem is there.
I'm giving it a couple of weeks before I move the site to a different host, as I am very happy with my hosting company up until now..
Any advice on what this problem is? Ive googled and googled but to no avail. also, how long do you think it will take for my site to recover from this mess in google?
Strangely enough, my ranking is better than ever in all other SE's so it must only be google that has this duplicate filter.
