Depends on what your definition of "basic" is. If you are just conversational, you can do ok with directions ordering off of menus, reading signs, than I wouldn't recommend it, because you will inevitably make grammar and spelling mistakes which will reflect poorly on the site.
However, If your language skills are more advanced, and you can read, write, without making spelling, grammar, syntax types of errors, than it wouldn't be a bad idea. The other consideration is that poker/casino types of web sites are probably going to have a lot of words and variations/slang which wouldn't easily be known to a non-native speaker.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of sub.domains. I think it would be better to have pokerbonusdirect.com/francais/articles.html ,etc as opposed to francais.pokerbonusdirect.com , but there is some debate as to which is really better.
