Did you change the domain extensions?

PR shouldn't be effected by a host change. PR just cares about the URL.

Do you think a site can get "re-sandboxed" if the domain is transferred and hosting is moved? PPP? Anyone?

PPP, I must partially disagree, partially because they never mention website but do say changed hands in the Google FAQ.
If I buy an expired domain with PageRank do I get to keep it?
No. Google, as a registrar, can tell if a website has expired and changed hands. They reset the information for that domain automatically as a result.

PPP said PR is concerned with the URL. Nowhere did anyone bring up expired domains .

Kyle, perhaps you missed the part that reads "changing hands." I know in Canada that is what people say when talking about what to do when you're masturbating and can't get off, but in the US it means when a website is sold and the WHOIS info changes.
I'm unstoppable tonight... don't you agree "eh?"

Why not quit when you are just a little behind next time? You are totally wrong on 2 instances
Instance 1: The faq section you pointed out only applies to expired domains. You know this because a) The title of the faq question is " If I buy an expired domain with PageRank do I get to keep it?" and
b) it says if a website has expired and changed hands. It says "and" not "or"
Instance 2: Loserscore simply asked about a host move - he never even said a domain was "bought" from someone else, therefore changing hands at all. So basically the faq you brought up was totally off topic.
And as for the Canadian low blows.... just make sure you put a link from your seo blog to this post, eh?

Kyle,
Pissing contests are always fun, but it looks like we've come to a conclusion. I misread that it said he "just changed hosts" and offered advice based on the fact that I thought he had actually bought the site.
Here is what I have found for further info losercore, which basically reiterates what PPP said, but is more detailed. However, it doesn't mention PR at all, just "your sites listing":
Quote:
Will switching hosting companies or changing my IP address affect my listing in Google?
As long as your URL stays the same, your site's listing in Google shouldn't be affected if you switch hosting companies or change your IP address. We recommend migrating a site to a new IP address with the following steps:
1. Bring a copy of your site up at the new IP address.
2. Update your nameserver to point to the new IP address.
3. Once you see search engine spiders fetch pages from the new IP address (typically within 24-48 hours), it's safe to take down the copy of your site at the old IP address.
|
Here is some more information about how the Google PR may have been affected by the move. Perhaps losercore was doing more than just the move and made a couple other modifications. I'd imagine that everything is just fine now though anyways and we are typing for our health

They say no question is a dumb question, especially if other people have the same question. I get to answer many questions on the topics of SEO, blogs and PR and I'll try to post more of them here. Here's a recent one: "Will changin my web hosting affect my rankings?"
Like many things dealing with SEO, the answer is "that depends". If all you're doing is moving the web site 100% as-is, then there shouldn't be a big change in your rankings at all. However from my experience, when clients ask this question there are often a number of extra changes being made besides changing hosts.
Because many company owners don't realize all of the technical aspects of hosting and of web sites, they often simplify the act of updating a web site to a new plaform, or overhauling a site which might also involve moving the site to a new host as just "moving my site".
If the site is being moved to a new host AND is changing the technology that makes the site work, such as changing from Cold Fusion to php or changing from asp to .net or .aspx, then there can be a negative effect on rankings if the proper precautions are not taken.
If that is not the case, then moving a site from one hosting company to another should involve:
1. Set up the new hosting account and function web site under a ip address or temporary address to make sure everything is working
2. Point the domain name DNS to the new hosting location
3. Leave the old hosting location up for a week or so
4. After a few days, the change should propagate throughout the internet and search engine spiders should detect the change as well
