domain forwarding/SEO

I have a site with a year of hosting left but I want to use that for another domain. Can i just forward the new domain to the other site and resign the site to match the new domain? Well, I know I can but will it be ok with the SE's? What are the pros and cons to doing this?

Yes it will be fine.

Just redirect 301 or use a rewriterule and R=301 (preferred method).

You can also do this with your hosting company. Godaddy makes it easy. You either just add the domain or change the domain name for the hosting account.
