Please Help! Do not make me talk to them again!!! :P
I've had this crazy ticket with hostgator since we moved to a dedicated server. Generally, they assume I am an idiot for a month before i get any sort of decent response, so I think I finally got the answer to my problems.. Only I don't actually understand it.
I use SmartFTP.. I can't FTP to 4flush, I can FTP anywhere else. 4Flush is on a dedicated server (with 1 other site, that I CAN FTP to).
I haven't been able to FTP for a very long time, you can imagine how frustrated I am.
So here's the ticket, and the end result. Can someone PLEASE in plain English, not server talk.. help me to change this option?
There should be way more info than anyone will ever need below

Cathy,
What you need to do is change the configuration of your script to load files from the addon domain folder instead of from the main domain.
That will correct this issue.
Have a great day.

RE: Chris (from hostgator)
That sir is the problem, not the solution.
|
Today, I stopped logging in with the IP and logged into my FTP client (smartFTP) with the cpanel username and password.. using the username (edit).
For awhile it worked. I actually updated some pages, and figured I'd just been logging in wrong all along somehow.
Then all of a sudden, it stopped saving updates. I didn't log out, it just quit. I tried over and over again, the changes were NOT saved. I closed the ftp program, reopened it, nothing. I closed my browser windows, same.
The changes were not saved.
I do hope you realize when you read and disregard this ticket, that I operate more than 75 websites. I'm not a professional server admin by far, but neither am I an idiot. This is a problem, it is a serious problem, and it is a seriously frustrating problem.

I am showing the file is uploaded to:
[ /home/flush]# find /home/flush/ -iname edited-file-name.php
/home/flush/public_html/4flush/includes/edited-file-name.php
But that page is looking for it in the below link:
|
I just uploaded this file.. Smart FTP said "Upload successful"
As far as I can tell, there is no file..
xxx4flush.com/includes/edited-file-name.php

Hello,
I do show you uploading this file today:
--edited out the part where he shows me I'm editing a file, because there's password stuff there--
The file on the site is the same size as the last upload. If this is not displaying the content it shows when accessing it locally, clear your browser cache and try loading the page again.
Thank you,

I spent 20 minutes writing the original post, so that you'd be aware that I
did go back and try the old server, after the edit TO THE NEW SERVER did not
work.
|
Hello,
It seems you edited the page on the wrong server. Please check :
[root@flush /home/flush/www]# stat bingo.html
File: `bingo.html'
**deleted a buncha numbers**
The page does not have a modification date for today on the dedicated server.

I am attempting to make a change to a static (html) page on our new dedicated server. The change is not being saved.
I originally had this problem right after the change to the new server..
I tried today (logging in via the IP) to edit the bingo.html file on both the new dedicated server (4flush.com) and the old 4flush.com/bingo.html file on the muckhappens swamp hosting account (just incase for some reason the file was still being read from the old domain name.. which isn't the case).
Basically I uploaded the bingo.html page, I edited the footer, no change was visable on the website.
To be sure I didn't make a mistake, I changed the first h1 tag on the page from Bingo History to Bingo Test .. no visable change was made.
I have been using ftp quite successfully for a few years, I am brand brand new to having or beginning to understand a dedicated server.
I tried calling into support however the agent that answered pretty much just said it wasn't possible.
Here is the information the agent on the telephone requested prior to my hanging up on him pasted from my welcome email:
Your Domain: 4flush.com
Your Username: ***
Your Password: ****
Your sites IP address:

Your name servers:

Cathy, I hope I could help, but I am not familiar with server issues.

LOL, sometimes I have to do this too so that they realize that they are not speaking to a newbie.

Hello,
I have fixed xxx4flush.com/includes/edited-file-name.php but it is calling another file geoip.inc which does not exist on your server.
[root@flush /home/flush/www]# find ./ -name geoip.inc
[root@flush /home/flush/www]#
Please upload that file and then try again.

If I had a dollar for every support ticket I have ever opened with Hostgator I would be retired. Their support has been awful for me over the years.

Hi Guys,
I'm the owner of hostgator and I'd be happy to see if I can personally help anyone here that is having problems with us. I most likely won't be back to this forum so just shoot me an email to brent @hostgator.com and I'll see what I can do.
