Question Help with Vista Update

I am going absolutely crazy here. Yesterday I get a popup that I need to do another update for Windows. Some kind of service pack with 3 parts. The first two parts take about an hour in a half to fully install then the trouble starts. The 3rd pack said 0% installed for hours..and I went to bed with it sitting like that on the screen. Woke up this morning everything was fine, logged on ..than switched users so the kids could play some games and it went back to the install screen and again 0% from part 3 of 3 of this service pack. That was at 3 pm this afternoon. 71/2 hours later and it finally installs than turns off, than comes back and says part 3 did not install reverting back. Wait another hour and it shuts itself down, than reboots same page than finally comes back.

obv this is not normal and I am really not sure what I should be doing now...and dont have the time to keep screwing around with this stupid thing.

Do I start the update again...ignore it or?????

I would imagine installing the service pack set a system restore point so I'd restore back to before you installed the service pack and then download the service pack update from the windows site, it's just one .exe that you install. I did it that way and it worked fine.

You have to love Microsoft for installing an update that takes 6 hours to install without telling you it would take that long beforehand. I figured it was just something wrong with my computer, but I guess it isn't. Thanks Microsoft. Idiots.

I'm assuming we're talking about Vista SP1? It only took me a maximum of 30-40 minutes to install...

I am fortunate to have a kick-ass comp that has no problems with Vista as of yet (after 3 months)! Keeping fingers crossed here.
