I'd say targetting the 5 million people is a much better strategy.

Much less competition and you can build a great site around poker in your Country.

If i was you thats what i'd definitely look into doing.

Yes you got a point there. There is another problem though. The rules of promoting online poker in my country are a bit tricky as to whether its allowed. Thats also why i have always focused on the english/us marked.

I have started with "the list" today and submitted to 50 directories. I know there are different opinions about spending time doing this and the value of it, but now its done. And since it can take months to get listed i got started today although there is not much on the site yet.

I will submit to a few more gaming only directories tomorrow.

Its extremly boring and time consuming, so i just had a poker game going while i was at it.

I have had a few contact me about free articles and help with the design, thanks for that.

The list

1. Directory submission
2. Social Bookmarking
3. Submit to Digg
4. Stumbleupon
5. Article Submission
6. Create Hub Pages
7. Create Squidoo Lense
8. Submit Press Releases
9. Buy Review Blog Posts
10. Do Blog Commenting
11. Forum Posting
12. Forum Signatures
13. Ask for Review in Webmaster forums
14. Create Facebook Apps
15. Distribute Free Themes
16. Write for Others Blogs
17. Distribute Free Content
18. Buy Links from Paid Directories
19. Buy Related In Content Inner pages
20. Become a Sponsor
21. Build Partnerships
22. Create a Blog about your site
23. Submit your Blog to RSS Feed
24. Do Ping Regularly
25. Submit your blog to blog directories
26. Build a Mailing List
27. Run Contests
28. Exchange Links from related sites
29. Use Craigslist
30. Look/Create Link Baiting

A few suggestions:

The perfect SEO you're looking for and the offer of 5-10 footer links do not coincide.

If you really need the cash perhaps sell around 5 one year sponsorships for around $250. Have a section in the sidebar that links to a review of their site (not to their site but to a review of it). Sell these and you got $1250 to build the site with and you haven't given up a bunch of footer links. At the end of a year you can way up the cost for sponsorships or get rid of that plan with maybe creating a sponsors page elsewhere on the site acknowledging and thaning the sites original sponsors, but by that time you won't need to keep linking a bunch of pages or selling those kind of ads.

I bring this up because while it was a decent concept building any decent site 6 months from now when your having trouble getting credit as a legit content site as opposed to an affiliate and link trading sites - you'll wish you hadn't agreed to give all them footer links.
I have thought about this that pokerprop suggested, and maybe its not such a bad idea after all. A little funding would be useful to get some more contest/advertising so i will try and get five sponsors for that, and then keep 5 footer links to those helping for free.

hi new

I think your idea is very good, but make it right from the beginning.

1) design - get a student from ITU, DTU, DIKU (I guess ur from DK) who can make a decent design for you.
2) when the design is ready contact both of the potential partners and ask for funding.
3) If they don't like your project find alternative funding, sell links etc,
4) use the money to make the coding of the site

I have been contacted by someone who is willing to sponsor a CMS revolution theme that can be used for both the main site and the blog. I dont really know what this is, but it sounds good so i hope that will work out.

Yes im working on that and im sure i can find a u.s friendly site that will be interested. Im waiting on responce from brandon, but hes proberly pretty caught up with the launch of the new site.

I have already taken pokerprops advise on that and im now trying to sell 5 links/reviews for 200$ for 1 year. The 1000$ can be used for alot of things, coding, articles advertising, links etc

Thanks for your input, keep it coming :-)

If it were me, before creating everything else, I'd look at some other themes. There are some great themes out there, even free ones. IMO, you can build something a lot more interesting than what this theme can give you.

Promoting english/international is nothing different to your legal situation - in your country (as in most countries of the world) it is illegal. Whether you do it in your native language or not.

The difference is, most of us use .com and not their national TLDs like .fr .it or .de so unless someone reports you to the authorities, they never get to bother with you. And combine this with domain privacy, custom DNS and hosting, hardly anyone could find your whereabouts.

So why not make a .com site in your own language? I am doing so, both english sites and in that some other language

Greetings!
