help me build a new site

Hi all PAPoholics

I just bought a new domaine onlinepokerleague.org and i need your help

I want it to have top quality content and perfect SEO, basicly everything a great website has, and this is where you come in.

I dont have a budget for the site. Why you may ask, and the answer is simple. I just dont have any money to put aside for it. So why the hell would you want to help me!
Well i guess there is no good answer to that, but ill try anyway.

1. you are bored
2. you like helping noob affiliates
3. hmmmm... ehhh cant think of anything else right now

Oh wait... I can offer links and commercials. Its not much, but i will offer it anyway. If anyone could find the project interested and is willing to give a hand, ill add footer links on the mainpage to the 5-10 top helpers on the project and a blogroll link for 2 years. You can also have a permanent page/post in the blog. A review of you site or whatever you want. Its not much, i know that, but its what i can offer.

So what exacty do i need help with?

Well so far i have added a free template and thats it.
Now i just need "the rest"

What is the site about?

I want the site to attract new players to my not yet started poker league at my main page. Its not started yet but the plan is to start it as soon as possible at eighter brandons new site or (imbarresing but i cant remember who it was, someone here from PAP who is also starting at a new u.s friendly room)
I havent talked to any of them about it though but the plan is to promote one of these 2 sites.

Content

I only want to promote the room where the league is being played, so i dont want to add reviews of other sites. What i want to add is alot of tournament strategy articles and league information.

Where should we start?

Well the site need a logo to start with. (the logo provider will get the link and blog stuff for sure)
It need tournament and general basic poker rule/strategy articles. (If you want to sponsor articles you will offcourse get a link to your site on the specific article page)
The site need an intro on the main page. Ill start with that as soon as i know what room the league will played at.
And when that is figured out, the site will need a comprehensive review of that site.

Thats just a little to start with. The ball is rolling and hopefully somebody will play

BTW the blog is located at leaguenews.onlinepokerleague.org and every step of the process is being posted there

first problem:

I have uploaded these plugins in the blog

all-in-one-seo-pack
google sitemap-generator
blog-mechanic-keyword-link-plugin-v01
ultimate-google-analytics
wp-super-cache.0.6.4

but they dont show up so i can activate them? I have installed these at other blogs but never encountered this problem. Anyone knows what could be the reason?

problem sorted. I dident open the folders before uploading them

Im looking for help and guidense on designing the site from scratch.

A few suggestions:

The perfect SEO you're looking for and the offer of 5-10 footer links do not coincide.

If you really need the cash perhaps sell around 5 one year sponsorships for around $250. Have a section in the sidebar that links to a review of their site (not to their site but to a review of it). Sell these and you got $1250 to build the site with and you haven't given up a bunch of footer links. At the end of a year you can way up the cost for sponsorships or get rid of that plan with maybe creating a sponsors page elsewhere on the site acknowledging and thaning the sites original sponsors, but by that time you won't need to keep linking a bunch of pages or selling those kind of ads.

I bring this up because while it was a decent concept building any decent site 6 months from now when your having trouble getting credit as a legit content site as opposed to an affiliate and link trading sites - you'll wish you hadn't agreed to give all them footer links.

I think your much better of starting any new site you develop in your native language.

Dude i know you mean that in a good way. I know my english is not perfect, but i have always loved english and no its not my native language.
Im from a country with 5 million people and i think it would be a bad strategy to target 5 million when you can target 50.000.000...

I understand what you say about the finances with selling links etc. and i appresiate your input. Thats not what this project is about though. Its more to learn the whole process of building a site from scratch and also documenting it. For myself mainly, but maybe there are some "closet" PAP's railing who could also find it usefull to read about a detailed project like this. I just want to throw in the links stuff offer as a small appresiation to those who will support the project.

Having read through your post, I don't quite understand what sort of content this site is going to include. I'm guessing it's going to be centered around poker leagues, but you talk about not wanting to include reviews of 'other sites'.

Does this mean that you're only going to be running a poker league at one particular site ... or multiple ones?

Yes its going to be about the league at one site, and then content about general tournament strategy, thats the main theme.
