Off-the-shelf Website design

Are any off-the-shelf products (eg Blue Voda) any good? Or do you just end up with a generally poor website?

I don't know about everyone else, but I really like starting blank. Originality is everything in this game. That said, I have gotten some good layout ideas by looking through templates.

I am strarting to think the same, as I found out I couldnt directly alter the source code using the website creator I first went with.

Do these pre-formed layouts also have a very negative impact on SEO, or am I just getting paranoid by reading too much?
