.com .name .tv... does it matter

hi all

Im looking into buying a few new domaine names but does it matter what the end is?

.com.net.org.info.biz.name.us.cc.ws.tv.eu

Is .name as good as .com?

Whats up with all these different endings?

I know some are country specific, .us, .eu etc. but apart from that?

I havent been abel to google an answer to this so someone can hopefully explain it, thx

Depends a bit what you want to do with it. If you want it to rank well in Google is suggest you stick with .com or .net.

Just think about how often you see a .cc domain ranking in the top 10 for anything. That should be a hint right there.

.com is best but .net works well also and even .org

.info are cheap so there are a lot of spammers using these.

I'd go with the .com. It's the easiest to brand and google hasn't surely got anything against it.

but does google has something against the other brands? I just dont get it, why is it easier to rank with a .com domaine? Is it not just a matter of building a good site no matter what it ends with?

I disagree, it doesn't matter search engine wise what extension it is. COM is a more widely used extension and therefore more people register it apposed to CC, hence why sites that rank higher are often the more common TLDs, it's just because there are more of them.

No, search engine wise it doesnt, but for branding it does. I wouldn't have anything other than a .com or .co.uk because imo most other TLDs are not as widespread as .com / .co.uk, maybe .us

Google doesn't mind what extension you use, because as you say, they just want to rank the best sites.

Saying that however, I wouldn't use anything other than a .com, .net or .org just because of the fact many people will be unfamilair with anything else (unless it's .co.uk or whatever country you are targetting). To be honest though, I would feel a little uncomfortable developing any other than a .com, but that's just me.

You're right. Google doesn't discriminate against against the TLD used in a domain name. It doesn't matter whether the domain is a .com or .cc as long as you promote it well and Google deems that you have good, valid content.

Having said that, if you can get the .com or .net address, I still would. Mainly because I think the average surfer values them more highly than they would do other TLDs.

My view is if your going to actually spend a good amount of time and money on development and promotion of a website then spend the extra few dollars on a good .com domain it will be better for branding.

Also about search engines from everything I've read the extension dont matter.
