Default Quick website question...

Okay - not really looking for design critique or anything at this stage, especially as it is a WIP. However I have a quick question about a site which I will ask in a bit.

Basically I am redesigning PokerAffiliateBible.com. The new WIP design is up at http://www.dealerdangaming.com/pokeraffiliatebible - I ask that you put yourself in the shoes of a website visitor for a moment, and just visit that like you normally would without knowing the question. I've put the question below - please don't read until you've visited and looked at the site And go....

Question time Do you notice that the latest articles are on the right hand side? Or are you just used to where the articles are usually, in the main center block(currently entitled "Older Articles") and so immediately look at that? I'm just wondering whether or not I should duplicate the articles that are in the "Latest Articles" block to the right, into the "Older Articles" block below(and rename it "All Articles).

Thanks

I think its fine, the only thing I would suggest (strongly) is that you change the Carbon Poker banner. The movement in the banner seems like a big distraction to me (especially if you want someone to notice the "latest article" section). I'm not a big fan of the image between the "offline marketing 101" and "latest articles" section either (it looks odd, doesn't seem related)...but anyway, I would change the Carbon Poker banner.

edit...

The latest article section may stand out a little more if all of the links where white...just a personal preference but I figured i would add it.

New design looks great.

My eyes were initially drawn to the list of latest articles... then onto the rest of the site... however one curiousity was that I did not notice the 'latest articles' header until coming back and seeing your question.... maybe this was because the top article is in white and thus caught attention first??

Would tend to agree with duplicating the key articles in the "All Articles" section... would give you a second chance to steer people towards your key pieces if nothing else.

Cheers, Mark

I love the new design - I also noticed the articles on the right instantly.

I did notice them, but I didn't pay too much attention to them as my first instinct was to scroll down to the whiter area where I suspected the 'meat' of the site would be.

I think the fact that those two top boxes have roughly the same colour background as the header stops them from standing out as much.

You're showing some impressive skills Dan, your writing is also a pleasure for the mind.

You've done a good job on embracing the visitor, and I feel welcome when it comes to reading your personal experiences in regard to the Affiliate World.

I've spent 30 minutes trying to come up with something after putting on my critique glasses, but I'm coming up dry. I'd like to see the site when you've fully integrated all aspects of your old site, but for now all the things I did find could be blamed on innovation which isn't bad imho

Dan, I really like the layout and I saw the articles on the top right hand side no problem. Agreed the picture in the middle made me go 'hmmm' but that's not a bad thing.

good design man.
