I would say that A bounce rate of around 50% is pretty good going, but it does depend on the type of content you host on your site.

One way of reducing your bounce rate is to try and highlight links to content that the user may find useful i.e tag clouds and categories.

Using bounce rate is more of an internal thing really. There's too many factors that differ when comparing sites here. Google says above 50 is cause for concern but I don't really agree. To a large degree this is a function of the degree of targettedness of your visitors, for instance. I get a lot of webmasters dropping by to check out the site for instance and they rarely need to go beyond the home page to get what they are after. I also get a lot of real general searches like poker who are less likely to stick around. There's also the out links and if someone clicks on a banner for instance which you want then it puts it up as well. So with all this my bounce rate has always been in the low 60's overall and I'm happy enough with that since I have things set up the way I want and they can bounce all they want

I've only had analytics on my home page for 2 days but my bounce rate is 75% so I hope that gets better although that might explain why I'm making basicly nothing and my site is on pace for 2700-2800 uniques.

Really depends on what your content is. If you have a ton of information on the homepage, without many "teasers" to visit another page (click here, continued article at this link, etc), your visitors may be getting what they need in once shot.

Plus, in this industry, with affiliation, one of the end goals is to send people elsewhere-to play. Check your conversion rates on clickable links to your affiliate sites-hopefully those should (somewhat) mirror your bounce rate.

2 days isn't a significant sample really. The bottom line as Tanya says is how much money you're making. Even if you look at something much more direct like $ per 1000 visitors it may not give you the most accurate picture, although compared internally over time it will indicate your progress or lack of it.

Your visitors are going up which is a good thing and that does provide some useful info. Bounce rate I wouldn't really worry about, although conversion rate, meaning more $ per month, is going to be fairly important to you

In terms of advice, your site is very nice although maybe a little too low key. I'd shoot for a bit more hype. I'd focus more on selling them to stick around rather than just announcing what you have on the site. It's kind of like the features vs. benefits thing. Focus more on benefits

Default Under 30% is the goal

Really if you care about the user experience, and want to not only convert, but retain users, shoot for under 30%.

Go page by page and everything over 30, think of new ways to keep them on site, unless that page is conversion directed and you are pushing them to an operator.

Another solid tip is to look at the banners and calls to action on a high bounce rate page, and then check out your stats for those conversion triggers, if you have users leaving and hitting your programs, you win!

Well it's more the tone than anything. The best way to approach this is to take a step back and look around and ask yourself why you would want to hang around. Then work on spicing up your home page to create more buzz.

I checked the benchmark for medium sized poker and gambling sites (average 200 visitors per day) and the average is about 47%.
