Default .com domain sold?

Ok now obviously I should have also registered my .com domain but someone else was ahead of me.

Now I think this domain has little value on it isn't showing up anywhere, only when someone types .com instead of .nl

So I contacted the owner because if someone would mistype our domain it makes us look bad since it is only a banner site.

He wanted to sell (bought the domain a couple of days ago) and I offered $50, which he refused.

Now $50 seemed reasonable to me, since I doubt het gets more then 2 visitors a day and he can not do anything with the domain in terms of developing it into a real pokersite.

But I am 100% sure he bought it just to get money out of me, I bet he doesn't even have a clue what it means .

My question: $50 is reasonable right? I am not really planning to go any higher, and would only want the domainname to shut it down.

$50 is a reasonable offer if the domain name does not have any type-in traffic, or the key phrase is not being searched much.

If you are talking about your Poker als bijbaan site, then that phrase is not being searched practically at all.

Yeah that is the domain I am talking about. Oh well Maybe I will just let him hold on to his .com domain for a while and offer him $25 the next time he wants to sell it lol.

Yeah seems reasonable, did you ask how much he would take for it??

I've been trying to get a domain off a guy I meet at tunica a couple years back.. He hasn't touched the site in forever, no traffic, no PR.. 'but he still says he's not selling yet..

The last time he asked what I would do with it when/if I bought it lol

Nah I just figured he would say I want a thousand dollars for it, but he said, and I quote
Quote:
Thanks for the offer. I will keep the domain
So no idea but he gives off the impression that $50 is way below what he wants for it. But I wish him the best with his domain and I hope there aren't that many people who type in .com instead of .nl .

Well, I'm not sure about what keywords you are targeting, but if I remember it's like "poker part time' or something??

Either way, I think a common mistake when people build websites is to optimize it for the website name and not keywords.

So, do you plan on people typing in your exact url?? Or do you plan on getting organic search engine traffic? 99% of the time your traffic will come form SE results and not people typing in an exact url.

Of course, if you are doing offline marketing it may be an issue, but after looking at your site, it would be easy to get most of your traffic form the se's..

My point is that if you SEO your site to target keywords, it really doesn't mater who has the .com if you are targeting SE reults and traffic - You will be above the .com results in the SE's.

Hope that makes sense..

Ah at the moment we are no.1 if you type in poker + bijbaan

Most of our traffic is direct traffic (around 60-70%). We've got around 300 unique visitors each day and around 100kish pageviews a month, so it's not that bad .

We do have some offline marketing in the form of logo's when we are playing live events and business cards, but that's it.

But it would be nice to have the .com just to be idiot proof .

Makes sense, also since I cannot read your language I was just guessing as to why you might be concerned about the .com issues..
