| Holland Casino halted going online |

The Dutch government has held up the new laws that would have allowed a state run casino to operate an online casino with the Netherlands, previously illegal. Holland Casino had previously been working with the Cryptologic Network regarding the design of the online room, with no immediate word issued regarding those plans in the wake of the surprise hold on the planned vote. This stall comes just a week after the government decided that they would begin to prosecute any banks that were involved in online gambling transactions. They took the issue a step further to disclose a list of online gaming sites that would be placed under surveillance and could fall victim to the same fate as local banks. This decision could be seen in a negative light due to the recent passing of EU laws making it easier for online gaming to take place. Major effects have been seen from these EU laws on other countries such as Sweden, Germany and France. The wave of new legislation may have played a part in the Dutch Senate's pressure to move these proposals into law. |
